This Tulip airway training video uses a TRUCORP mannequin and demonstrates the total seal produced by the Tulip airway. The total seal stops any leak on high pressure ventilation, which contrasts with the leak that is audible and apparent with both the Laryngeal Mask type airways and the iGEL in this video. The Tulip airway in this video allows significantly higher airway pressures to be generated without any leak, as registered on the POSEY cuffulator instrument on this video. The POSEY cuffulator is marked in 10cmH2O increments. The TRUCORP mannequin has been customized to allow in-line pressure measurement of the airway pressures by using a Luer-lock valve implanted in the end of the TRUCORP blue rubber "lung" balloon. Both the Laryngeal Mask and the iGEL airways leak at lower ventilation pressures than the Tulip airway in this video and we find that is also the case in-vivo, showing that mannequin assesments and simulation are a worthy adjunct to anaesthetic training. Ve! ntilation pressures of greater than 100cmH2O can be reliably produced within TRUCORP mannnequins using the Tulip airway but we recommend that this type of assessment is NOT carried out in Human subjects to reduce Patient risk, as pressures of this magnitude are likley to be fatal in Humans, hence requiring mannequin simulation.
