Speedway Kings of Southwestern Pennsylvania & Region, 100 Years of Racing History, takes you on a spin through area auto race tracks from 1903 to present day. Author Marci Lynn McGuinness' second book on the Uniontown Speedway board track marks 31 years of book publishing for the Fayette County native. After releasing four books in her "Yesteryear" series, collector, Jim Boyd, asked McGuinness to visit him at his Jockey Hollow home. His arms were loaded with news articles and photographs when she arrived. He hugged them to his chest and said, "You have to promise me to do something with this. No one has researched the Uniontown Speedway board track. This is important." That was 1994. Two years later, she published Yesteryear at the Uniontown Speedway. Boyd passed away in his sleep shortly afterward. The next year, she reprinted the 68-page, 1916 opening race program. Since then, the author has written many a book, most on historical happenings. In 2009, after the Summit Hote! l sponsored the third printing of Yesteryear at the Uniontown Speedway, she wrote the screenplay, Speed Kings. It is based on the story and famous men behind the board track. Last year the author received a phone call from Uniontown resident, Filomena Glad. She was in possession of a photo album belonging to her uncle. He had attended and photographed every race at the Uniontown Speedway, from 1916 -- 1922.
